Thruxton: Race Report

Ryan Frost continues to establish himself as the rider to beat in the R&G Moto4 British Cup after another outstanding weekend, securing a double victory and pole position to extend his championship lead, while Daniel Goodman claimed his first Pirelli British Sportbike podium. Meanwhile, Rollo and Reid finished 5th and 11th respectively in the Pirelli National Superstock race.

Lewis Rollo and Simon Reid endured a more challenging weekend than they have become accustomed to. Both riders have already stood on the podium several times this season (Rollo on four occasions and Reid twice), but this time the #88 had to settle for fifth, while the #10 crossed the line in 11th. Nevertheless, both riders collected valuable championship points, with Lewis Rollo currently sitting third in the standings on 149 points and Simon Reid seventh on 95.

In the Pirelli British Sportbike category, the positive surprise of the weekend came from Daniel Goodman. The rookie qualified third on the grid, putting himself firmly in podium contention. He went on to cross the finish line in second in Race 1 after leading for much of the race, claiming his first podium of the season. Starting Race 2 from sixth on the second row of the grid, Goodman made a strong start but, after feeling a loss of power from the bike, ran in eighth before getting involved in a crash with another rider, resulting in a DNF.

His teammate Harley McCabe, who also knows what it feels like to stand on the podium in the category in GRYD Racing colours, came home in 11th in Race 1 after starting from 16th. In Race 2, he managed to finish inside the top 10 in seventh, a result that will give him a much needed confidence boost going into the next round. McCabe currently sits third in the championship standings with 166 points, just 48 points behind the championship leader.

In the R&G Moto4 British Cup, Ryan Frost continues to set the pace, securing a double victory to extend his championship lead to 30 points over the rider in second place. Tyle Humphries finished P8 in Race 1 before improving in Race 2 to take 5th, while Spanish rider Álex Remesal Lomas finished inside the top 10 in both races, taking 10th in Race 1 and 7th in Race 2. He was closely followed by Thorley Trevorrow, who finished 11th and 10th respectively, while Aeziah Divine also scored points in both races, securing two P14 finishes.

Attention now turns to the next round, which will take place in two week’s time, from 29-31 August at Cawdell Park.
