Assen: Race report
The British Superbike Championship headed to Assen in the Netherlands for its only overseas round of the season.
In the premier class, the British Superbike, Cheshire Yamaha experienced a weekend of mixed fortunes at Assen after a strong showing at Cadwell Park, where Rory Skinner secured victory in Race 1.
In Saturday’s opening race, both Skinner and Kent, who lined up on the front row for the first time this season, secured top 10 finishes, with Rory crossing the line in sixth and Danny in ninth.
However, Sunday morning brought a setback for the team when the #11 crashed during the warm-up. The team worked tirelessly to get the bike ready in time for the second race of the weekend.
Despite the race against the clock, Skinner was unable to take part, while Kent made it to the grid and eventually crossed the line in 13th.
The weekend ended on a positive note for the team, with both bikes making it onto the grid for the third and final race of the weekend. Both riders returned to the top 10, with Skinner finishing seventh and Kent eighth.
The team leaves Assen seventh and eight in the overall standings, with Skinner on 217 points and Kent on 139. The focus now turns to Donington Park, where the penultimate round of the season will take place in two week’s time.
The young talents of the Moto4 British Cup also enjoyed an overseas weekend at another world championship circuit, having previously raced at Silverstone in August.
In the opening race, Thorley Trevorrow was the team’s highest finisher in sixth, followed by Tyler Humphries in seventh. Championship leader Ryan Frost finished inside the top nine, while Aeziah Divine crossed the line in 12th and Spanish rider Álex Remesal Lomas finished inside the top 15.
In the second race, Frost once again showed why he leads the championship standings as he secured a podium finish. A red flag prevented him from taking the victory, but the #24 took second place and added valuable points to his championship tally.
Remesal followed closely behind, narrowly missing out on the podium in fourth, with Humphries rounding out the top five. Both riders showed strong pace throughout the race and battled at the front of the field. Divine finished 14th, while Trevorrow was unable to finish after crashing with three laps remaining.
The Junior team now heads to Donington Park aiming to continue its positive progress and maintain its position as the championship’s leading team, with just two rounds remaining.
